The Coppell Cowboys hosted their Teacher Appreciation Night against the Lewisville Farmers this Friday. Though the match wasn’t the most entertaining, the Cowboys were able to dig out a slim 1-0 win. The match held a very even and tight first half. Neither team was able to dominate the other with most of the game taking place in the midfield. Apart from some long shots that failed to test the keepers, there were no real chances until the final minutes before the first half. With only 2 minutes left, forward Gareth Meza was able to beat his defender on the right flank and play a perfectly weighted through ball to forward Sam Stone. In the blink of an eye, Stone was able to take a touch and blast the ball to beat the keeper at his near post. The Cowboys were able to capitalize on their first shot on target in the game to head into halftime 1-0. The second half would have the same pace as the first with both teams evenly matched. As the time remaining in the match continued to dwindle, the game slowly became more and more end-to-end. Forward Mohammed Ouedrago would create problems for the Lewisville defense, forcing turnovers and even winning a free kick. Stone would step up to the spot, but his accurate shot would be matched by an impressive save by the Lewisville keeper. With ten minutes left in the game, Lewisville would have their biggest chance of the game but ultimately came up short. After some quick link-up play a Lewisville forward found himself in on goal down the left flank. He would fire a shot toward the bottom right corner, but it would slam off the post. The game would finish 1-0 with the Cowboys narrowly winning. It wasn’t the prettiest game, but the Cowboys were able to earn a crucial three points in front of their beloved teachers. On a three-game win streak, the Cowboys will look to keep it alive against the Marcus Marauders on Tuesday.
