On a rainy and cold afternoon, the Coppell Cowboys started their district play on a sour note, losing 1-3 against Plano West. Dominant throughout the first half the Coppell Cowboys started with a 1-0 lead going into halftime. Still being dominant in the first few minutes of the second half Coppell never saw an equalizer coming within the first 15 minutes of the second half. After the goal for that tied up the game Coppell crumbled, conceding two more goals in the remainder of the second half. Coppell started strong with a very well-orchestrated goal. The build-up started from the back. The Cowboys were able to beat Plano West’s press and find Sam Stone. Sam with excellent vision saw Vale making the through run and gave him a perfect ball through. Vale outpaced his defender and finessed it to the right of the keeper, giving the Cowboys the lead. In the second half, Plano West came in with a different intensity than the one they came in in the first half. Plano West were pressing more and being more lethal with their attacks. Off of a set piece, the Wolfs had a decent shot on goal that was blocked by Coppell’s keeper. Unfortunately for the Cowboys, the rebound of the save fell straight to a Plano West player, who just tapped it in to tie the game. A couple of minutes after the first goal, the Wolves took advantage of a mostly mistake by the Cowboy's defense. With a costly turnover near the eighteen-yard, Plano West’s winger took a shot inside the box. The shot was deflected right to a wide-open Plano West player who just tapped into the back of the net giving them the lead. In garbage time Plano West took advantage of that Coppell was in full all-out attack. A Coppell turnover on Plano West’s side of the field led to a counterattack. The Wolves winger was able to outpace the Cowboys defender and was successful in finishing off the 1v1 against the Coppell keeper. The Coppell Cowboys will look to this tragic loss as motivation to play with all they have against Lewisville in their next district game.
