COLLEYVILLE, Texas | October 30, 2026
Coppell Volleyball opened its postseason with a commanding performance Friday night, sweeping L.D. Bell 25-13, 25-11, 25-13 at Colleyville Heritage High School to capture the UIL Class 6A Division I Bi-District Championship.
After navigating a competitive District 7-6A schedule and securing the fourth playoff spot, the Cowgirls wasted little time establishing control. Coppell won all three sets by double digits, delivering one of its most decisive performances at a time when every match determines whether a season continues.
The victory improved Coppell's overall record to 20-12 and sends the Cowgirls into the Area round of the UIL playoffs, where they will look to claim their first Area championship since 2018.
Brooke Felix led the offensive attack with 18 kills, giving Coppell a consistent scoring threat throughout the match. Taylor Mechsner added 11 kills, while Finley Penniman contributed nine kills and three blocks.
Together, the trio accounted for 38 kills, reflecting a balanced attack that kept pressure on the L.D. Bell defense. Rather than relying on a single hitter, Coppell received significant offensive production from multiple players, making it difficult for the Blue Raiders to find an answer.
The Cowgirls were equally effective defensively. Hailey Chew recorded 11 digs and three service aces, contributing both to Coppell's ability to extend rallies and its success at the service line.
Friday's victory also featured an important milestone for sophomore Allison Lewis, who made her varsity debut in a playoff match. Lewis responded with six digs and a service ace, making an immediate contribution in her first appearance at the varsity level.
Her performance added another encouraging development to an evening that highlighted the Cowgirls' depth.
The sweep marked a significant turnaround from Coppell's regular-season finale, a four-set loss to Plano West on October 23. In that match, the Cowgirls battled through several closely contested sets but struggled to finish against a district opponent.
Against L.D. Bell, Coppell left little room for a similar outcome. The Cowgirls opened with a 25-13 victory, followed with their most dominant set of the night at 25-11, and closed the match with another 25-13 win.
The result demonstrated the value of experience gained through district competition. After facing a series of demanding opponents during the regular season, Coppell entered the playoffs prepared to execute when the stakes were highest.
For the Cowgirls, Friday's championship represents both an accomplishment and an opportunity. The program has advanced beyond the opening round, but the challenge now becomes maintaining the same consistency against increasingly competitive postseason opponents.
With its season extended and momentum on its side, Coppell moves into the Area round looking to build on one of its strongest performances of the year.
