Coppell Volleyball saw its postseason run come to an end Tuesday night, falling to Walnut Grove in four sets (22-25, 13-25, 25-23, 23-25) in the UIL Class 6A Area playoffs at Frisco Lebanon Trail High School.
The Cowgirls battled throughout the match, rallying to win the third set and pushing Walnut Grove to the final points of the fourth before falling just short. Coppell finished its season with a 20-13 record.
Senior Brooke Felix led the Cowgirls offensively with 16 kills, while senior Finley Penniman contributed 12 kills and four blocks. Taylor Mechsner added 12 kills and three blocks, giving Coppell three players with double-digit kills.
Zoey Ponsen directed the offense with 32 assists while adding 14 digs, contributing on both sides of the ball.
After dropping a competitive opening set 25-22, Coppell struggled to find its rhythm in the second, falling 25-13. Facing elimination, the Cowgirls responded with a determined third-set performance, earning a 25-23 victory to extend the match.
The fourth set developed into another close battle, with Coppell fighting to force a decisive fifth set. Walnut Grove ultimately secured the 25-23 win to advance in the playoffs.
The loss followed Coppell’s straight-set Bi-District victory over L.D. Bell, which advanced the Cowgirls to the Area round.
Although the season ended earlier than the Cowgirls had hoped, Coppell closed its campaign with 20 victories and a postseason appearance. The team’s resilience in Tuesday’s elimination match reflected the competitive effort that carried the Cowgirls through the fall season.
