Coppell Football opened District 7-6A play Friday night with a 42-14 road win over Berkner at Wildcat-Ram Stadium, improving to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in district.

The Cowboys took control early after Madden Montague intercepted Berkner on the second play of the game. Coppell turned the takeaway into a touchdown when Carter Zingelmann found Jackson Echols from four yards out for a 7-0 lead.
Zavier Kichan added a two-yard rushing touchdown early in the second quarter, then scored again on a 31-yard reception to extend the lead to 20-0.

Play was stopped for several minutes in the first quarter after Berkner wide receiver Jacob Watson was injured following a reception. Watson was placed on a backboard and stretcher before being taken from the stadium by ambulance. He was seen moving his arms and legs as he left the field.

Jacob Anene helped break the game open before halftime. Anene scored on touchdown receptions of 82 and 59 yards on consecutive Coppell possessions, giving the Cowboys a 35-0 halftime advantage.

Zingelmann finished 13-of-17 passing for 252 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions. He also rushed for 66 yards and another touchdown. Anene led the receivers with three catches for 151 yards and two touchdowns, while Echols caught five passes for 38 yards and a score. Kichan finished with 84 rushing yards and a touchdown on 17 carries and added a 31-yard touchdown reception.
Coppell did most of its damage in the first half, scoring 28 points in the second quarter. Berkner scored twice in the fourth, but the Cowboys maintained control and closed out the 42-14 win.
