Coppell Volleyball dropped a tight District 7-6A match to Lake Highlands on Tuesday night, falling 3-1 at CHS Arena on Middle School Night.

Three of the four sets were decided by three points or fewer. Lake Highlands took the opener 27-25 before Coppell answered with a 25-15 win in the second. The Wildcats then edged the Cowgirls 25-23 in the third and closed the match with a 25-22 win in the fourth.

Brooke Felix led Coppell with 15 kills and 11 digs, while Finley Penniman finished with 12 kills and nine blocks. Zoey Ponsen recorded 47 assists, Hailey Chew added 13 digs, and Alette Brown finished with 11 digs and three aces.

The night also brought together the next generation of Coppell Volleyball. Players from Coppell Middle School East, North and West were recognized before the varsity match, with the East Broncos, North Cougars and West Wranglers welcomed to the arena.

Grace Croley from Coppell Middle School North performed the national anthem. Middle school players also took part in a serving competition between sets and were invited to a post-match meet-and-greet with the Cowgirls.

While varsity came up short, Coppell’s younger teams completed a clean sweep. JV won 2-0, 25-23 and 25-17. The 9A team also won 25-23, 25-17, while 9B earned a 25-23, 25-16 victory.

Coppell moves to 14-8 overall and 3-2 in district play.

Volleyball returns to CHS Arena on Friday, Sept. 25, to host JJ Pearce at 6:30 p.m.
