The tennis team had a really strong showing at the 6A State Tournament! In girls doubles, Lexie Patton and Gabby Rice defeated Westlake in the Quarterfinals with a score of 6-1, 6-1 before coming up short against a talented team from Clements, who went on to win the state title. Lexie and Gabby finished third in the state, which is an incredible accomplishment! Lexie is the first athlete in our program history to make four state appearances during the individual spring season. Not only did she qualify for the state tournament all four years of her high school career, but she also earned a medal during each trip to compete at State. Lexie will continue playing Division I Tennis at Louisiana Tech University, and Gabby will continue her career at Southeastern Louisiana University. We can’t wait to see all that they will accomplish at the next level!
In girls singles, freshman Varsha Sivaprasad competed well and knocked out the #2 seed out of Region 4 in her opening round at state with a score of 7-6 (8-6), 6-1. In the first set tiebreak, Varsha was down 4-6 and rattled off four consecutive points to win the set after fighting off two potential set points from her opponent. In the quarterfinals, Varsha lost to the highest-rated player in the draw from The Woodlands, who went on to win the state title. Varsha finished in the top eight girls' singles players in the state as a freshman and has a bright future. I can’t wait for you all to meet Varsha next year since she will be joining us at CHS!
