The Coppell Cowboys returned to the postseason win column in a big way Tuesday night, defeating Plano East 69–56 in the bi-district round of the UIL Boys Basketball Playoffs. The victory marked Coppell’s first playoff win in four years and pushed the Cowboys’ season record to 25–11.
The crowd was in full attendance. Hopes and expectations were high in this game. This team won state in 2024.
Coppell set the tone early with confident offensive execution and defensive energy, building momentum throughout the game and responding to each Plano East run with timely baskets and stops. The Cowboys showed poise in a playoff environment, attacking the paint, sharing the ball, and capitalizing at the free-throw line to maintain control down the stretch.
The win reflects a season-long commitment to balance and depth, with multiple players contributing on both ends of the floor. Coppell’s ability to convert efficiently, protect possessions, and defend with discipline proved decisive against a Plano East team fighting to extend its season.
The Coppell Cowboys leaned on balanced production and composure to secure a 69–56 playoff win over Plano East, with several players stepping up in key moments.
Malachi Jackson set the tone offensively, attacking downhill and finishing through contact. His ability to score in rhythm helped Coppell respond quickly whenever Plano East threatened to build momentum.
Isaiah Fleming provided steady guard play, controlling tempo and making smart decisions with the ball. Fleming’s poise in a playoff setting helped keep the offense organized and flowing, particularly in transition opportunities.
Jacob Anene made a strong impact on both ends of the floor. His defensive activity and work on the glass limited second-chance opportunities, while his interior presence helped Coppell control the paint.
Levi Owira delivered key minutes inside, using his physicality to rebound, defend, and finish around the rim. His effort helped Coppell maintain control in the second half as the game tightened.
Colin Griffith and Robert Watson contributed important scoring and defensive energy, giving Coppell depth and versatility throughout the rotation. Their ability to stay engaged on both ends allowed the Cowboys to maintain pressure for four quarters.
The collective effort defined the night. Rather than relying on one standout performance, Coppell’s balance, ball movement, and defensive commitment powered the program’s first playoff win in four years.
With the bi-district victory, Coppell advances to the area round of the UIL playoffs. The Cowboys’ next opponent will be determined by the result of Tuesday night’s matchup between Lake Highlands (W7) and Martin (R8), scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Coppell will face the winner in the Area Championship round.
Area playoff games are scheduled to take place between February 26 and 28, with the site, date, and time to be announced once the matchup is finalized.
As the postseason continues, Coppell carries forward both momentum and confidence, pairing a 25-win season with a breakthrough playoff result that signals the continued growth of the program.
