Cowgirls Wrestling delivered a strong postseason performance at the UIL 6A State Wrestling Championships over Presidents Day weekend, sending six wrestlers to the state tournament and finishing with four state medalists.
All six Cowgirls won at least one match at state. Four advanced to the second day of competition by winning their blood round matches, a critical round that determines medal placement. The team finished with three sixth-place medalists and one fifth-place finisher, placing Coppell among the top 10 teams in the state.
Sophomore Isabella “Bella” Malcolm continued her rise on the state stage, battling through a tough bracket to earn a spot on the podium. Malcolm, a two-time state qualifier, became the youngest Coppell wrestler to place at the state tournament since 2019.
Elizabeth Cummings made a memorable state debut, eliminating a two-time state medalist and two-time region champion to advance to day two and finish as a state medalist. The junior’s performance marked a major milestone in her first appearance at the state tournament.
Senior team captain Hailey Kennedy secured her medal by defeating the reigning region champion from El Paso Eastwood, who had pinned her twice earlier in the season. Kennedy finishes her high school career as a two-time state qualifier.
Senior team captain Ishitha “Ish” Malladi highlighted her run with a pin using a Peterson reversal against the top-ranked wrestler in her weight class. Malladi went on to claim fifth place by defeating a Pebble Hills opponent who had tech-falled her twice during the season, closing her career as a three-time state qualifier.
Seniors Jaylen Hobbs and Elizabeth Urick also represented Coppell at the state tournament, each earning a win on their first day of competition.
The Cowgirls’ performance at state capped a historic season for the program and reflected the continued growth and competitiveness of Coppell Girls Wrestling.
