The Coppell Cowboys delivered a strong performance Tuesday night at the CHS Arena, pushing No. 2-ranked Frisco Memorial (5A) to the final possession before falling 77–73 in a competitive non-district matchup.
Coppell shot the ball efficiently throughout the game, finishing 32-of-60 and an impressive 28-of-44 on two-point attempts, consistently attacking the paint and converting at the rim. Ball movement was a strength for the Cowboys as they totaled 19 assists while battling Memorial’s defensive pressure for all four quarters.
Senior Sibusiso “Sibu” Ncube-Socks led the offensive effort with 16 points, continuing his strong stretch of play. Colin Griffith added 13 points, while the backcourt duo of Isaiah Fleming and Jacob Anene each contributed 12 points to keep Coppell in striking distance throughout the contest. Malachi Jackson chipped in 8 points, and both Robert Watson and Sebastian Peña added 6 points apiece.
On the glass, the Cowboys controlled over half of the available rebounds, generating multiple second-chance opportunities. Despite the balanced scoring and efficiency inside the arc, the final margin came down to a handful of possessions in a physical closing stretch that ultimately favored the Warriors.
The matchup serves as another valuable measuring stick for Coppell against one of the state’s elite programs and builds on the momentum gained from a runner-up finish at the Jack Frost Tournament.
The Cowboys return to action Thursday morning when they open play in the Coppell Winter Classic against Bishop Lynch at 9:00 AM in the Coppell Big Gym, followed by additional tournament games on Dec. 12 (4:30 PM) and Dec. 13 (8:00 AM) at the CHS Arena.
