On a cold yet sunny afternoon, Coppell faced off against a competitive side in Keller TimberCreek, with the encounter ending with both sides settling for a 2-2 draw. Despite the chilly weather, the game got off to a red-hot start, with the TimberCreek Falcons striking first blood within the first five minutes of the game. They were able to transition from defense to attack quickly, playing a ball that pierced through the Cowboys’ backline. Despite the Cowboys recovering, the Falcons’ attacker was able to find a fellow teammate at the edge of the box who fired a first-time shot into the side-netting of the Cowboys goal. A perfect counterattack indeed. However, the Cowboys didn’t let their heads drop from the disastrous start, as less than ten minutes later forward J McGill got tripped up after beating the defender in the opposition’s box, winning the penalty. Forward Sam Stone stepped up to the spot and calmly slotted the penalty kick away into the bottom left corner. The Falcons’ keeper guessed the right direction, but the accuracy of the shot left a save out of question. The Cowboys continued to pile on the pressure, working together vigorously to crack through the Falcon defense once again. Their hard work would eventually be rewarded near the end of the first half, as midfielder Caeden Naef was able to win yet another penalty. Once again Stone stepped forward to take it, and once again he chose to place it bottom corner. Once again the keeper guessed the right way, but once again Stone scored! Going into halftime leading by a goal, the Cowboys sought to continue their control of possession in the second half while also minimizing their mistakes. They had kept the Falcons’ attack at bay for most of the half, but the ability to counter seamlessly could not be overlooked. The Cowboys continued to control the game and dominate possession in the second half. The Cowboys’ attack continued to knock on the door of the Falcons’ defense but was ultimately unable to score a third goal. However, just when the game seemed done and dusted, the Falcons were able to score off a chippy free kick and draw level in the end.The Cowboys will be disappointed not to take home the win, but this is the best that have looked in the new formation Coach Morris has chosen to go with this season. Still undefeated, the Cowboys look to the upcoming NTX/Elite Showcase to perform and further gel together before the district season starts.
