Starting with the ball on a cold and windy night in Coppell, the Cowboys soccer was looking to secure their third scrimmage win against the McKinney high lions. It was a rough start for the cowboys as they mostly were chasing in the beginning of the first half, but a few minutes in and they began to understand what this game was going to be like and what they could do to counter McKinney's way of playing. The Cowboys were awarded a free kick in the middle of the first half, but sadly it did not lead to a goal scoring opportunity as it was stopped by the wall. Late into the first half the cowboys were still tied 0-0 with the Lions, but in minute 8 off of a break away sophomore forward Luis Mendez was able to beat the defenders dribble across to the right of the box and took a shot on goal placing it in the bottom left hand corner just so that the keeper could not reach it, cowboys were now up 1-0. A few minutes go by and Coppell was given a corner kick where senior defender Preston Taylor was sent to cross the ball into the box, the cross was a little short but it had just enough power to break through the keepers hands and get to Sophomore forward Luis Mendez to tap it into the goal, leading to his second goal of the game. Cowboys were now up 2-0. Coming into the second half the cowboys had the momentum and were creating multiple chances but just could not find the goal. In minute 10 of the second half the cowboys had a foul called against them and the Lions were awarded a free kick, a long ball into the box led to McKinneys forward getting a head on it and dropping it into the middle where the McKinney left wing just tapped the ball into the goal giving them their first goal of the game, the score was now 2-1. Playing for possession the last ten minutes the Cowboys defense was not broken in the last 10 minutes of the game. As the final whistle blew the Cowboys won their third scrimmage 2-1. Luis Mendez play impressive with 2 goals and 4 total goals in first three scrimmages.
