Coppell Volleyball improved to 2-0 in district play Friday night with a 3-1 win over Plano East at CHS Arena.

Friday’s match was also Coppell Volleyball’s annual Hits for Heroes philanthropy night. The Cowgirls partnered with One Tribe Foundation to recognize veterans, active-duty military members and first responders, and the program presented a $4,000 donation raised through Hits for Heroes shirt sales.
Justin “JJ” Jones of One Tribe Foundation spoke to the crowd before the match, and the Coppell High School Madrigals performed the National Anthem.

The Cowgirls dropped a tight opening set 27-25 before responding with three straight wins, taking the next sets 25-16, 25-14 and 25-19 to close out the match. That last set was a nailbiter.

Taylor Mechsner led Coppell with 13 kills and eight blocks. Finley Penniman added 12 kills and eight blocks, while Taliah Ellis also finished with eight blocks.

Brooke Felix contributed nine kills, 14 digs and four blocks. Zoey Ponsen recorded 42 assists and 13 digs, Hailey Chew had 23 digs, Addi Howard added 18 digs and Alette Brown finished with four aces.
The win moved Coppell to 13-6 overall and 2-0 in district play.

The JV team also earned a 2-1 win, taking the deciding set 25-17. The 9A team swept Plano East 2-0, while 9B lost two close sets, 27-29 and 24-26.

Coppell returns home Tuesday, Sept. 15, to host Plano Senior High at 6:30 p.m. at CHS Arena.
