LITTLE ELM – It is late in the fourth quarter. Less than a minute remains on the clock. The Coppell football team has one last shot to score against Little Elm.
Senior wide receiver Crew Davis secures a touchdown with just 0:28 left on the clock, marking Coppell’s victory over Little Elm, 35-28 on Friday at Little Elm ISD Stadium.
“It comes to a time where we need to execute and we’re battling back from that loss last week,” Coppell junior tight end Evan Macken said, “We’re just taking care of business and making sure everyone is good on their assignments.”
Coppell led offensively early on in the first quarter. After Little Elm senior kicker Hunter Crow kicked off, Coppell senior running back Dylan McAfee rushed 90-yards for a touchdown in the first 15 seconds of the game, putting the score at 8-0 following a two-point conversion.
“The first half we came out strong,” Mcafee said, “We had two turnovers which we shouldn’t be having but overall, we played decent.”
However, Little Elm quickly regained possession following a turnover and scored a touchdown and kicked for an extra point, setting the score to 8-7.
“We need to protect the football,” Coppell coach Antonio Wiley said, “Don’t turn it over.”
Coppell took a 20-7 lead into halftime, with all scoring coming in the first quarter.

By the start of the third quarter, Coppell's defense was struggling to keep up. Two third-quarter Little Elm touchdowns gave the Lobos a 21-20 lead.
“We’re missing tackles, blowing angles, doing things uncharacteristically; things that we don’t normally do,” Wiley said.
After a turnover from Little Elm, Coppell junior tight end Evan Macken received a pass from sophomore quarterback Carter Zinglemann for a touchdown, ending the third quarter with Coppell leading, 28-21.
The fourth quarter was a nail-biter; the Lobos fought on offense with Little Elm junior defensive back Jayden Ellis receiving two passes and covering 40 yards before senior quarterback Thomas Adams scored a touchdown with 1:52 left in the game, tying Coppell and Little Elm yet again, 28-28.
However, with Davis’ final touchdown, Coppell was able to take home a victory.
“Even when we didn’t play our best, we found a way to come out,” Wiley said
