Coppell Baseball took the field Saturday in a game that meant more than just the result on the scoreboard. On Senior Day, the Cowboys honored 17 seniors before first pitch, celebrating their contributions to the program in front of family, friends, and a strong home crowd.
The pregame ceremony featured a special first pitch involving players and their fathers, setting the tone for a day centered on appreciation, legacy, and opportunity.
Coming off a district loss to Denton Guyer the night before, Coppell used the matchup against Rockwall as a chance to reset and regroup. With the occasion in mind, the Cowboys leaned into an “all-hands” approach, rotating players throughout the game and giving seniors extended opportunities to contribute.
Coppell opened the game with Cade Slayton on the mound, a pitcher who entered with limited innings this season but had yet to allow a run. The starting lineup featured a strong senior presence, including Dillon Slayton, Aaron Malik, Mason Trishelle, Zander Montgomery, and Troy Hill.
Rockwall struck first with two runs in the opening inning and added another in the third to take a 3-0 lead. Coppell responded in the bottom of the third with a run of its own, cutting the deficit to 3-1 and keeping momentum within reach.
The game turned in the fourth inning.
Rockwall erupted for seven runs in the top half, breaking the game open and building a commanding 10-1 advantage. Despite the setback, Coppell showed resilience in the bottom of the fifth, putting together its strongest offensive stretch of the day with four runs to trim the lead to 10-5.
Coppell finished the game with six hits and continued to compete late, but Rockwall added an insurance run in the sixth and held on for the win.
Rockwall entered the contest undefeated in district play at 8-0 and 8-3 overall, bringing a high level of intensity, providing a competitive test for Coppell.
While the game provided valuable reps and competition, the day ultimately belonged to the senior class. From pregame recognition to in-game opportunities, the Cowboys made sure their veterans were at the center of it all.
On the field, Coppell faced a tough challenge against Rockwall, who entered the game undefeated in district play. Despite the Cowboys’ effort and energy, Rockwall pulled away for an 11-5 win.
