Coppell Cowgirls attended the prestigious 2024 Texas THSWCA EZ-FLEX State Duals on Friday. Only 16 teams from across the state were admitted to partake in this single dual meet. Coppell took on the major 6A powerhouses in our district, region, and beyond. Coppell Cowgirls started off by demolishing Prosper, pins secured by Cassie Bonacci, Annie Reeder, Ishitha Mallidi, Ava Payne, and Elizabeth Urick. Piper Carrell secured the lead with a close 2-0 win.

In quarter finals, Coppell took on defending state dual champs and district rival Euless Trinity. Despite a rough start with close losses from Emma Pehl, Annie Lopez, and Fallon Silva, Coppell swung the pendulum back to victory with dominant pins by Isha Yeluri, Annie Reeder, Ishitha Mallidi, Ava Payne, Piper Carrell, and Elizabeth Urick, sealing the team’s place into a medal position.

Semifinals drew the current UIL 6A state champs Allen, who had several state medalists and a multi-time state champ. Despite valiant efforts from all girls, only Piper Carrell and Karissa Godhia secured pins. The loss sent the girls into the third place round, where they faced district rivals and first seed Lewisville Flower Mound.

The fight for third was an emotional roller coaster. Fallon Silva started the team with a winning pin, Trinitee Hobbs suffered a tough match against state medalist Lillian Zapata. Karissa Godhia, Ava Payne, Cassie Bonacci, and Piper Carrell came out victorious; Elizabeth Urick, Isha Yeluri, Emma Pehl, and Ishitha Mallidi lost by pin. Annie Reeder secured a win by major decision 11-2. The final match, due to injury, required subbing in Reece Murry Fr. who wrestled her heart out to keep Coppell in the lead, but got pinned at the end of the first period, pushing Flower Mound ahead to win bronze by two points.

Cowgirls take home 4th place, but refuse to settle as they now prepare for the postseason championship schedule starting with districts on February 1st
