Coppell’s run at the Coppell Winter Classic ended Friday with a 81–56 loss to Greenhill in the tournament semifinals, as the Hornets pulled away with a big second half to advance to the championship game.

The Cowboys came out sharp and confident, knocking down early perimeter shots to set the tone. Coppell hit multiple threes in the opening quarter, including a pair from Colin Griffith, and built early momentum with ball movement and transition looks. Greenhill answered with pace and shot-making of its own, then closed the first quarter on a run to take a 17–14 lead.

Coppell battled through a physical first half and cut into the deficit late behind an immediate spark from Jack Taylor, who drilled a three right after checking in. The Cowboys trailed 32–26 at halftime after a late turnover led to a Greenhill buzzer-beater.

In the second half, Greenhill’s guards controlled the tempo and consistently created quality looks. Jackson Thompson led the Hornets’ attack with scoring in transition, the midrange, and at the rim, while Mason Finley provided a steady stream of buckets and timely threes. Greenhill also benefited from second-chance opportunities and interior presence from Kameron Smith as the lead grew throughout the third quarter.

Coppell continued to compete and looked for answers with different lineup combinations, but Greenhill’s shot-making and defensive pressure proved to be the difference as the Hornets stretched the margin to 81–56 by the final horn.

Coppell will close the Coppell Winter Classic with one more game today at 1:30 PM to finish the tournament. The Cowboys are back in action next on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 7:15 PM at The Colony HS in The Colony, Texas.
