Kai Cothrin
Coach Kai Cothrin (formerly Wesemann) enters her 4th year at Coppell. She currently serves as an Algebra 2 Teacher & Volleyball Varsity Assistant Coach. Coach Cothrin brings 4 total years of high school coaching experience. Her past coaching experience includes her previous years at Coppell and at Newman Smith High School. She has also coached club volleyball for 7 years. An impressive track of success, Coach Cothrin posts Varsity Assistant during 2022 Volleyball Season playoff qualifiers. In club coaching, she has coached in 3 USAV Junior National Championships and Assistant Coached at 2 USAV Junior National Championships.
As an athlete, Coach Cothrin played at Pleasant Hill High School in Pleasant Hill, MO on the Varsity Volleyball & Basketball teams for all four years of her high school career. A few accolades include Volleyball State Championship 4th; Volleyball State Championships 2nd; Volleyball All State Honorable Mention; Volleyball 2nd Team All State; Volleyball Academic All State; Volleyball Conference & District Champs; Volleyball & Basketball Academic All-Conference; Basketball State Championship Elite 8; 1st Team All-Conference and All District; Conference & District Champions. She continued her career as a student athlete at the collegiate level and went on to play volleyball at Johnson County Community College for her freshman and sophomore year and then transferred to Lincoln Memorial University to play volleyball, beach volleyball, and basketball while earning an Exercise Science degree in May of 2019.
Away from coaching, Coach Cothrin enjoys time spent with family and friends and playing sand volleyball. Her favorite quote is, “Without struggle there is no progress.”
CISD Athletics is filled with coaches that care. When asked “Why you coach”, Coach Cothrin responded “I coach because I believe that the life lessons and disciplines that are learned through sports are essential skills that help to instill habitual greatness within individuals, some who didn't even know that they had the greatness within themselves. I coach to lead, inspire, and motivate young athletes to use the disciplines learned through sport to impact the world around them and make it a better place.
