Coppell Volleyball took another important step toward the UIL playoffs Tuesday night, defeating J.J. Pearce 3-1 (25-20, 24-26, 27-25, 25-11) on the road. The victory improved the Cowgirls to 19-11 overall and 8-5 in District 7-6A with one district match remaining.
After taking the opening set, Coppell dropped a close second set, 26-24. The third set proved to be the turning point as the Cowgirls edged Pearce 27-25 to regain control of the match. Coppell then dominated the fourth set, 25-11, to secure the victory.
Brooke Felix led the offense with 25 kills and 13 digs, while Taylor Mechsner added 15 kills and four blocks. Finley Penniman contributed nine kills and four blocks, giving Coppell a strong presence at the net.
Alette Brown delivered an all-around performance with seven kills, 17 digs and four aces. Emma Rose directed the offense with 53 assists, while Hailey Chew led the defensive effort with 21 digs. Addison Howard added 18 digs.
The victory was particularly meaningful after Pearce swept Coppell in their first district meeting on Sept. 25. Tuesday's result gave the Cowgirls a road win against a team competing for postseason positioning and moved Coppell closer to securing a playoff berth.
Coppell's subvarsity teams faced competitive matches against Pearce. JV won the opening set before falling 25-18, 22-25, 22-25. The 9A team lost 10-25, 19-25, while 9B fell 18-25, 20-25.
With one district match remaining, the Cowgirls have an opportunity to finish the regular season strong and secure their place in the postseason.
