The Coppell Cowboys were looking to hold their number 1 spot in the district tonight, hoping for a win against Flower Mound. Unfortunately for the Cowboys the game wouldn’t go their way whatsoever. With a very choppy first and start of the second half the Cowboys struggled to keep possession of the ball. Also with some miscommunication in the defense on throw ins and crosses led to the downfall of the Coppell Cowboys.
The first half started very evenly with both teams creating dangerous opportunities. But Flower Mound would get the edge on Coppell on a long throw-in. With a long throw, Flower Mound was able to put the ball in the box, after a few bad clearances by Coppell the ball landed in front of Flower Mound player who just tapped it in, putting Flower Mound in front.
Towards the end of the half Flower Mound would have another very dangerous play. After a very well built up attack the Jaguars winger whipped it into the box, where yet again it would ricochet off of some Coppell defenders and land at the feet of one of their attackers. Like the last goal the Flower Mound stricker was able just to place the ball in the back of the net making it a 2-0 lead.
Coppell wouldn’t stay quiet tho, nearing the end of the half Coppell would take advantage of a counter attack. After a ball played to Sam Stone he was able to find J McGill in space, where he was able to take it down the line and cut it and finish. This goal gave Coppell some momentum going into halftime.
Coming back from halftime Coppell was looking to come back and win the game. These hopes were cut short as Flower Mound was able to capitalize a cross into the box. In the second half a Jaguar winger whipped the ball into the penalty spot where their forward was able to put a head on the ball and put it in the back of the net.
Being down 3-1 Coppell started playing with even more passion and aggression but these efforts would fall short as Flower Mound was able to put the ball in the back of the net one more time. After a very choppy play around Coppell’s 18 yard box the ball was yet again just bouncing around. Like the first two goals a Jaguar striker was able to find the bouncing ball in the box and blast it into the goal.
Coppell suffered a really demoralizing defeat, but the boys will look to build off of this loss and move on and work harder. The Coppell Cowboys will look to bounce back against the Plano Wildcats on Tuesday.
