The Coppell Cowboys finished their preseason with a friendly versus the Azle Hornets. The Cowboys won in style, crushing the Hornets in a one-sided match ending with a final score of 4-0. From the moment the referee blew his whistle to start the match, the Cowboys maintained almost full possession of the ball. The Hornets attempted to press the Cowboys’ backline heavily, but the Cowboys would break through their efforts easily. The Cowboys created chances early, testing the keeper on multiple occasions. They would finally break through midway through the first half, as left-back Manav Kapadia was able to play an early cross to midfielder Srikar Mulukutla, who was able to flick the ball to forward Luis Mendez. Mendez struck a low and hard shot into the bottom left corner of the goal to give the Cowboys their first goal of the match. The Cowboys would continue their dominant performance in the second half. Ten minutes in, forward Caeden Naef would cut inside at the edge of the box and finesse the ball into the side-netting of the goal, doubling the Cowboys’ lead. The fun wouldn’t stop there, as seconds after play restarted the Cowboys’ would quickly win the ball and Naef would blast the ball into the roof of the Hornets’ net. The quickfire brace from Naef now put the Cowboys comfortably in the driver’s seat. The scoring wouldn’t end there, as with ten minutes left the Cowboys would score one more to make the score 4-0. A Cowboys’ corner kick was cleared only to defender Chaz Null who was able to fizz the ball back into a clump of players in the box. After a series of deflections, defender Mohammed Ouedraogo was able to poke the ball into the net, marking his first varsity goal. This triumphant win will boost the morale of the Cowboys squad.
