The girls’ soccer team officially started their season this weekend by competing in the Frisco ISD Dr. Pink Showcase. The team was looking to build off a strong preseason. The tournament started off against a tough Frisco Lonestar team. Lonestar pushed to score but could not get through the Coppell defensive line of Miranda Hickey, Kayleigh St. Peter, Monica Morales, & Tatum Escobar. Goalkeeper Veronika Orzolek played great keeping Lonestar out of the goal. Coppell scored before the end of the half when Freshman Neerali Kapadia found Sadie Ozymy in space and Sadie put Coppell up 1-0. Sadie returned the favor and found Neerali to start the second half and Neerali beat four Lonestar defenders and shot the ball into the top left corner of the goal. Sadie put the game away ten minutes later after intercepting a pass from the Lonestar keeper and then finishing a shot passed her. The next day Coppell played Klein Collins. The girls dominated from start to finish. Coppell out shot Klein Collins 23-0 and had over 80% possession for the game. They ended the tournament against a tough Amarillo team. Despite dominating possession and having lots of chances on goal, Coppell was down 1-0 at half after an unlucky bounce on a corner. The girls didn't panic and kept playing their game and were rewarded when Claire Pafford rifled a shot off the post and Sadie Ozymy finished the second chance to tie the game up. The Cowgirls would take the lead when Sophomore Isabel Agudelo found Freshman Rachel Mathew in space. Mathew beat the Amarillo keeper on the 1v1 and scored her first Varsity goal. Mathew would put the game away five minutes later when she chipped the ball over the keeper to seal the win for Coppell. Freshman Neerali Kapadia scored 2 goals on Friday which was her birthday and Freshman Rachel Mathew scored two goals on Saturday on her birthday. The girls will play in the Allen on Thursday to open the Allison Horn Cup in Colleyville.
