Dispite being heavy underdogs to returning state champions, Allen High School, the cowgirls put together a total team effort to take the district title this past Wednesday at the District Tournament.
Scoring points with every wrestler, the squad won the title by a convincing 18 points. State power, Prosper, was third. This is the teams 11th District Championship in a row.
Senior, Maria Husain, won her second district title and improved to 28-0 on the year. Scout Carrell, a Junior, won her first individual district championships.
Senior, Sarah Valadez, was 2nd, and his advancing for the third time. Junior, Tucker Sparks, was 2nd.
Sophomores, Cassie Bonacci and Ava Payne were also tournament runner-ups. Finishing out the medalists, Freshmen Piper Carrell and Annie Lopez were also 2nd. Karissa Godhia finished 5th in the meets toughest weight class, and will be a regional alternate.
Coppell Coach Ted Witulski was named the District Assistant Coach Of the Year.
The Regional Championships will be February, 11 & 12, at Allen High School.
