The Coppell Varsity Tennis Team came up short in the Regional Semifinals against Southlake Carroll. The overall score was 9-10. The match began on Thursday, 10/15, but there was bad weather that prevented the match from being completed.
At line one girls doubles, Varsha Sivaprasad and Palkin Gangwal delivered a solid win with a score of 6-1, 6-0. Anna Hartley and Mihika Modi also secured a win at line two girls doubles with a score of 6-4, 6-1. In Mixed Doubles, Kasi Kavali and Gloria Sun won 6-2, 6-1. The overall score after doubles was 3-4. Right as doubles wrapped up, the sky opened up and continued raining for the rest of the night. Play was suspended overnight and resumed at 8 AM on Friday morning. In singles, Coppell won six of the twelve matches. Notable wins came in at multiple lines. Freshman Ethan Yang pulled a big upset at line two boys singles in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-3. At line five, Cody Chow defeated his opponent with a score of 6-3, 6-0. In girls singles, Varsha Sivaprasad (line 1), Gloria Sun (line 3), Mihika Modi (line 4), and Anna Hartley (line 5) all won in straight sets.
Our team competed with class and represented our school in the best possible way. The same cannot be said for Southlake as they could not control their emotions, resulting in multiple instances of racquet and ball abuse. Additionally, the Southlake fans and players hindered play multiple times during the match, which was disrespectful and illegal. Coppell fought hard until the very end of the match, and we are so proud of all that the team accomplished this season. We look forward to what's to come in the spring!
Current Record: 21-1
