Coppell Tennis continued its undefeated season Thursday, Oct. 8, defeating Rock Hill 10-2 at Richland Tennis Courts to claim the UIL area championship. The Cowboys and Cowgirls improved to 20-0 and advanced to the regional quarterfinals.
Coppell established an early advantage by winning six of seven doubles matches. Varsha Sivaprasad and Palkin Gangwal delivered a 6-0, 6-0 victory, while Anna Hartley and Mihika Modi won 6-0, 6-2.
Rachel Howe and Chloe Ahmad battled through a competitive opening set before pulling away for a 7-5, 6-1 victory. On the boys side, Ethan Yang and Ivan Morales Miranda won 6-1, 6-4, while Eshaan Reddy and Sunny Tupurani earned a three-set victory, 6-4, 4-6, 10-4. Steve Jack and Gloria Sun added a 6-2, 6-0 win in mixed doubles.
Coppell carried that advantage into singles, where Sivaprasad completed a perfect day with another 6-0, 6-0 victory. Mihika Modi also won both of her matches, adding a 6-0, 6-2 singles victory after her doubles win with Hartley.
Ethan Yang won his singles match 6-0, 6-1, and Gloria Sun added a 6-0, 6-2 victory to help Coppell secure the team win.
One of the afternoon's notable performances came from Steve Jack, who trailed 4-1 in his opening singles set before rallying to win it 6-4. His match was left unfinished after Coppell clinched the team victory.
The 10-2 result included six doubles victories and four completed singles wins, with several remaining matches stopped once the outcome was decided.
Pickles earned the unofficial title of snack of the match, adding a little flavor to the Cowboys and Cowgirls' area championship
After opening the playoffs with a 12-0 bi-district victory over South Grand Prairie, Coppell has now won both postseason matches and remains undefeated through 20 contests. The Cowboys and Cowgirls move on to the UIL regional quarterfinals with their season still perfect.
