Coppell Cross Country had to make a late change to its final regular-season meet after the Jesuit XC Classic was canceled because of weather and parking conditions. Instead, the Cowboys and Cowgirls competed Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Byron Nelson Last Minute ’26, giving the team one final race before the District 7-6A Championship.

Senior Maya Easterwood won the varsity girls 5K, finishing in 18:01.2. Easterwood crossed the line nearly 25 seconds ahead of runner-up Emily Armstrong of Lovejoy, who finished in 18:26.1. Finleigh Sanders-Burk was Coppell’s next finisher in 20:21.8, followed by Shrriya Bedse in 22:04.5.

On the boys side, Diego Morales led Coppell with a ninth-place finish in 16:25.8, continuing his return after missing the early part of the season. Isaiah Assefa followed in 14th at 16:41.5. Marco Noyola finished 27th in 17:23.9, Cannon Stehly was 33rd in 17:48.4 and Lukas Stumm rounded out Coppell’s five with an 18:17.4. Those finishes gave the Cowboys a calculated team score of 122.

Coppell also put two runners in the top 10 of the JV boys race. Baron Schott finished ninth in 18:17.2, with freshman Austin Shelby right behind him in 10th at 18:21.9. Oscar Martin, Alexander Marks and Calvin Wolf completed Coppell’s top five.

Despite the last-minute schedule change, the meet gave Coppell another opportunity to race before championship season. It concluded a busy regular season that included meets throughout North Texas along with trips to Round Rock for the HOKA/McNeil Invitational and College Station for the Nike South Invitational.

Next up, Coppell returns to Myers Park in McKinney for the District 7-6A Championship on Monday, Oct. 12. The Cowboys and Cowgirls raced on the same course earlier this season at the McKinney Boyd Stampede, giving them experience on the district course heading into one of the most important meets of the season.
