Coppell Football opened the 2026 season with contributions from all three phases, pulling away from Hebron for a 40-10 victory Friday.
The season opener was also Senior Night, with Coppell recognizing 32 football seniors before kickoff. The pregame ceremony also honored seniors from sports medicine and cheer as part of the evening’s celebration.
The Cowboys led 8-0 after the first quarter and took an 18-0 advantage into halftime, with the defense setting the tone. Hebron was forced to punt six times in the opening half, including a blocked punt that gave Coppell possession at the Hawks’ 12-yard line and set up the first touchdown of the season. At halftime, Coppell held a 175-56 advantage in total offense.
The offense found its explosiveness behind quarterback Carter Zingelmann, who finished 22-of-30 for 297 yards and three touchdowns. Jackson Echols was his top target, catching eight passes for 145 yards and two touchdowns, including an 85-yard score late in the second quarter that pushed Coppell’s lead to 15-0.
Several other Cowboys made immediate impacts. Newcomer Corson Lindley caught six passes for 79 yards in his Coppell debut, while Diego Rodriguez finished with three catches for 44 yards and a touchdown.
Coppell also got production from its backfield. Zavier Kichan carried six times for 20 yards and scored his first varsity rushing touchdown, helping extend the lead during the third quarter.
One of the night's biggest plays came immediately after Hebron finally got on the scoreboard. With Coppell leading 26-3, Jaden Bibbs returned the ensuing kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown, quickly answering the Hawks’ field goal and helping send the Cowboys into the fourth quarter with a 33-3 advantage.
Defensively, Coppell consistently disrupted Hebron quarterback Brady Brock and kept the Hawks from sustaining drives. Aaron Isbell was a force along the defensive front, while Isaiah Witherspoon, Jaden Bibbs and Daylon Montgomery were part of a secondary that repeatedly broke up passes and stayed tight to Hebron’s receivers.
Hebron added its only touchdown in the fourth quarter, but Coppell had already built a commanding lead on the way to the 40-10 final.
The victory moves Coppell to 1-0. The Cowboys travel to Waxahachie on Friday, Sept. 4 for their first road test of the season.
