Coppell once again hosted the Middle School State Championships in the Arena on Saturday, March 7. Over 30 schools with a mix of 7th and 8th graders attended, including Houston ISD, Spring ISD, Carroll, Frisco, Princeton ISD, and more. This tournament is not on the traditional UIL Wrestling calendar and experienced hardship when snowy weather forced its rescheduling from January to March.

Nonetheless, nearly 50 Coppell wrestlers from North, East, and West participated- the girls squad returning with increased numbers from last year, and the boys squad competing for the first time - and finished with six state champions and a multitude of placers.

Coach Maxine Lisot served as primary coach, recruiting athletes and organizing practices for the past two months, in addition to working as one of the tournament directors. She would like to thank parent volunteer coaches Colin Grayson, Brett Sidebottom, and Kyle and Greg Sturch; the countless parent and high school volunteers who gave up Saturday to help; and the ongoing efforts by our middle school wrestling coach staff. From North, Coach Siebermann and Coach Huseth; East, Coach Mitchell and Coach Hill; and West, Coach Stivers and Coach Narro.

The stellar performances by our Cougars, Broncos, and Wranglers demonstrate the growing excellence of Coppell Athletics. We hope they shine as future Cowgirls and Cowboys on the high school stage!
