The Coppell girls golf team tested itself against elite competition on January 12 at the NEISD Girls State Preview, held at TPC San Antonio. Facing one of the toughest fields of the season on a championship-caliber course, the Cowgirls finished 10th overall with a two-round total of 662.
Coppell posted matching team scores of 331 in both rounds, showing steady play throughout the day despite challenging conditions. The event featured many of the state’s top programs, including Austin Vandegrift, Southlake Carroll, and The Woodlands, giving the Cowgirls an early look at postseason-level competition.
Senior Riya Bapna led Coppell individually, turning in a strong two-round score of 151 to finish tied for 11th overall. Bapna opened the tournament with a 74 and followed with a 77, setting the pace for the Cowgirls against a deep and talented field.
Senior Nethra Sheri followed with a total of 159, while junior Sabrina Tam provided consistent scoring with identical rounds of 87. Freshman Adira Navarathinam gained valuable varsity experience, finishing with a two-round total of 178, and senior Isabella Nguyen rounded out the Coppell lineup with a score of 187.
The tournament was played on the Canyons Course at TPC San Antonio, a par-72 layout that stretches more than 6,200 yards from the tees used in the event. With elevation changes, firm greens, and demanding approach shots, the course provided a true test of patience and shot-making. This is where the state tournament will be on May 4th, 2026.
Competing against top-tier opponents in a challenging setting, the Cowgirls gained valuable experience that will serve them well as they continue their season and prepare for district and postseason play.
