Coppell Boys Wrestling delivered a strong and complete performance Saturday at the annual Santa Slam, finishing third overall in a competitive 23-team field at College International High School.

Held each December, the Santa Slam has become a staple of the North Texas wrestling calendar, drawing programs from across the region and beyond. The tournament is known for its deep brackets, fast-paced format, and early-season test of both individual skill and team depth, making it a key measuring stick as teams prepare for the heart of the season.

Coppell rose to the challenge, scoring 144 team points and finishing behind only Seneca and Flower Mound. The Cowboys’ placement reflected consistency across weight classes and strong performances throughout both championship and consolation rounds.

Leading the way was Duncan Ross (157 lbs), who advanced to the championship match and earned a second-place finish. Ross’s run highlighted his composure and toughness against high-level competition while providing a major scoring boost for the Cowboys.

Coppell added four third-place finishes, showcasing resilience and depth across the lineup. Sebastian Ramos (138 lbs) battled through a demanding bracket to secure his spot on the podium, while Roman Estes (126 lbs) and Pedro Ibarra (165 lbs) each rebounded from early rounds to finish third. Max Charles Tatsumi (190 lbs) capped the group with another third-place finish, continuing his steady production against quality opponents.

Additional team points came from Liam Gatlin (150 lbs) and Xandor Estes (175 lbs), who both placed fifth after winning placement matches late in the tournament. Sehej Mehta (144 lbs) contributed with a sixth-place finish in one of the deepest weight classes, gaining valuable experience and adding to Coppell’s overall total.

Throughout the day, Coppell wrestlers generated bonus points through falls, technical falls, and major decisions, a reflection of aggressive wrestling and strong conditioning. Multiple Cowboys competed deep into the brackets, keeping Coppell in the team race from start to finish.

The Cowboys’ third-place finish at Santa Slam continues a tradition of strong performances at the holiday tournament and signals positive momentum heading into the next phase of the season. Coppell will look to build on this result as competition intensifies in upcoming duals and tournaments.

The next tournament is Jan 2nd at 9:00 AM. It is the Grapevine Duals at Grapevine High School.
