Emma James serves as a girls coach and eighth-grade U.S. history teacher at Coppell Middle School West. She has coached cross country, basketball, and track and field during her time in Coppell ISD. James earned her degree in Middle Grades Education from Western Carolina University, concentrating in Social Studies and minoring in Teaching English as a Second Language.

James sees coaching as an opportunity to help students recognize what they are capable of—not only as athletes, but as people. She encourages them to try unfamiliar sports, step into leadership roles, and learn how to support the teammates around them. Before becoming a coach, James played basketball and volleyball at Whitewater High School in Fayetteville, Georgia.

Outside of school, she enjoys reading and singing. Her family also appeared in an episode of HGTV’s *House Hunters* when she was growing up.
