Donald Smith

Coach Donald Smith enters his 2nd year at Coppell. He currently serves as the Assistant head football Coach. Coach Smith brings 15 total years of coaching experience. His past coaching experience includes Hirschi high DC/Track coach; Denton High DC/SP teams coordinator; FW Trimble Tech DC/Head girls track coach; and Lakeview High Asst. football/track. An impressive track of success, Coach Smith posts District Champ 4 Years, Playoffs 6 Years, 5A State Finalist 2012, 4A State Semi-Finalist 2021 in football. Numerous regional track and field qualifiers and both boys and girls state champion in 100/200 in the same season 2018.


As an athlete, Coach Smith played Football defensive back, ran Track, and was on the Rodeo team at Springtown High with tremendous accolades including First Team district Defensive back, Rodeo state qualifier, and Region Team state champions. He went on to play Cornerback at Tarleton State University earning a Animal Production degree.


Away from coaching, Coach Smith enjoys Riding horses and fun fact, he went to college on a Football and rodeo scholarship for saddle bronc. His favorite quote, “It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken adults. ”


CISD Athletics is filled with coaches that care. When asked “Why you coach”, Coach Smith responded “I coach because I enjoy seeing youth being molded into something more than they possibly thought they could become.”
