Kit Pehl
Kit Pehl enters his 5th year leading the Coppell High School Athletic program. Coach Pehl brings a wealth of experience including but not limited to 2-time 6A UIL District Executive Committee Chair; 4-time professional development clinic speaker; and 17 state appearances and 22 district championships in arguably the toughest region in the state for most sports. Importantly, Coach Pehl has served in every role that he now leads: middle school coach, high school assistant coach, high school head coach, and assistant athletic director. The 2022-2023 year in athletics was especially noteworthy in Kit Pehl’s tenure. Under his leadership 61% of athletes were on the honor roll, 174 academic were all-state, 35 collegiate signees of which 21 were Division I, over 2400 hours of community service, an individual state champion, seven state top ten individuals, two top three state teams, and one top ten state team.
Coach Pehl brings 18 total years of coaching experience at Keller High School, Keller Central High School, and Coppell High School. In 14 years as a head coach, Coach Pehl was known for tough man to man defense and disciplined play. An impressive track of success, Coach Pehl averaged 19.6 wins per season; a career .718 winning percentage with 278 career wins; 6-time top 5 finishes in Defensive Pts/Gm and/or Defensive FG%; 2-time Coach of the Year; 3 District Championships; and cultivated 29 college players, 6 professionals including NBA draft pick in Joel Bolomboy in 2016.
As an athlete, Coach Pehl was a multi-sport athlete playing football, basketball, and baseball graduating from San Antonio Madison High School. He earned tremendous accolades including earning all-district basketball honors and playing in the Regional tournament both junior and senior year. He went on to Baylor University where he earned a secondary education degree with minors in kinesiology and history. Away from the office, Coach Pehl enjoys saltwater fishing; that is, until he tried to teach his daughter resulting in a treble hook set in the back of his head. Coppell ISD Athletics is filled with staff that care. His initiative in the athletic director role is development of the whole student. When asked “Why you coached”, Coach Pehl responded “Because you see yourself and others at their best and worst, I adore the depth of relationships that comes with that.” When asked about administrative leadership, Coach Pehl humbly mentions enjoying the role of playing a small part in the journey in growth of others.
