Coppell Tennis opened the UIL playoffs with a 12-0 sweep of South Grand Prairie Tuesday at the Coppell Tennis Center, improving to 19-0 and advancing to the area round.
Coppell took control immediately by sweeping all seven doubles matches. Kasi Kavali and Cody Chow, Ethan Yang and Ivan Morales Miranda, and Eshaan Reddy and Sunny Tupurani each won their boys doubles matches 6-0, 6-1.
The Cowgirls were even more dominant in the top two doubles lines. Varsha Sivaprasad and Palkin Gangwal won 6-0, 6-0, and Anna Hartley and Mihika Modi matched them with another 6-0, 6-0 victory. Rachel Howe and Chloe Ahmad won 6-1, 6-2, while Steve Jack and Ananya Miyapuram completed the doubles sweep with a 6-0, 6-1 mixed doubles victory.
Coppell continued to roll as singles began. Leyton Wang, Prabhat Pandey and Arnav Ambegaonkar each won 6-0, 6-0 on the boys side. Ananya Miyapuram and Anusha Patki also completed 6-0, 6-0 victories in girls singles. Several other Coppell players were leading when the match was decided.
One of the afternoon's more unusual wins came at No. 2 boys doubles. Ethan Yang's bus dropped him off about 15 minutes late, but he and Ivan Morales Miranda still stepped onto the court and won 6-0, 6-1.
The victory extends a season that saw Coppell finish the regular season 18-0 and win the District 7-6A championship. The Cowboys and Cowgirls are now 19-0 as they move into the second round of the UIL playoffs.
Next up, Coppell is tentatively scheduled to face Rock Hill in the area round Thursday, Oct. 8, at 10 a.m.
